Technology: Decentralized cyber-physical systems for real farms

Our stack is built for noisy sensors, intermittent connectivity, and constrained hardware, not lab conditions. We design for the realities of rural India from day one.

Energy-Food Nexus orchestration

We coordinate solar generation, pump scheduling, crop stages, and grid limits to make every irrigation decision aware of energy, water, and yield together.

Edge-first architecture

Nexus Edge Nodes make decisions locally, sync state only when needed, and keep irrigation reliable even when connectivity drops or cloud services fail.

Hardware-in-the-loop validation

We test policies on physical rigs that mimic real pumps, pipes, and field conditions to ensure that what works in simulation works in the village.

Multimodal interfaces at scale

Our interfaces blend voice, touch, and visual cues, designed for 150M+ Indian smallholder farmers in low-resource environments where AI must feel simple, trustworthy, and useful.

Governance, reliability, and data stewardship

We treat Nexus AI as infrastructure software: predictable, auditable, and aligned with program governance requirements.

Data governance & ownership

We work with partners to define who owns which data, how it is accessed, and how long it is retained.

  • Clear contracts for data ownership and access control.
  • Role-based views for farmers, FPOs, utilities, and program teams.
  • Exportable logs for audits and reporting.

Operational reliability

We track uptime, missed irrigations, and grid events to keep the system behaving like infrastructure, not an experiment.

  • Health checks for edge nodes and communication links.
  • Alerting for pump failures and unusual irrigation patterns.
  • Versioned policies and rollback mechanisms.

Program reporting

We surface metrics that matter for government and donor programs, not just model accuracy.

  • Time and money saved vs baseline operations.
  • Water reliability and cultivated area impacted.
  • Custom reports aligned to program logframes.

What a day with Nexus AI feels like

Instead of juggling calls, pump switches, and grid surprises, field teams see a clear shared plan that updates itself.

05:30

Dawn: Solar and crops in sync

Nexus Edge Nodes pre-compute irrigation windows based on solar forecasts, crop stages, and grid constraints, pushing a simple plan to farmers' companion apps.

10:00

Mid-morning: Real-time adjustments

Clouds roll in; a transformer goes offline. Edge policies reshuffle pump schedules locally, prioritizing critical fields and keeping loads within safe limits.

18:30

Evening: Evidence for tomorrow

Program teams open the command center to see which fields received water, where issues occurred, and how solar, diesel, and grid supplies were used.

Impact: Jharkhand solar-irrigation pilots and beyond

We work with farmers, FPOs, and government partners to turn AI into tangible improvements in water reliability, grid stability, and livelihoods.

Case study: Jharkhand Energy-Food Nexus program

In an early program across solar pump clusters in Jharkhand, Nexus AI engineered a decentralized cyber-physical system for solar-irrigation synchronization.

  • Achieved 12% higher resource efficiency in Energy-Food Nexus optimization using multi-objective RL.
  • Validated 40% water wastage reduction via hardware-in-the-loop AI-enabled irrigation testing.
  • Modeled a 22-month payback period for deployment across farms in the state of Jharkhand.
  • Reduced infrastructure costs by 28% through decentralized deployment without continuous cloud connectivity.

"With Nexus AI we finally see solar, water, and farmer needs move in sync instead of fighting each other."

What partners say

We work closely with on-ground teams who understand the realities of rural infrastructure and farmer livelihoods.

"Nexus AI turned pump scheduling from a guessing game into a clear, shared plan for our villages. Farmers now know when water will come and why."

"We manage dozens of pumps across our FPO members. With Nexus AI we finally see usage, outages, and results in one place instead of spreadsheets."

"From a grid perspective, their edge-first approach means fewer surprises. We get clean signals for irrigation demand without relying on perfect connectivity."

FAQ

Answers to questions we hear most from farmers, FPOs, utilities, and program teams.

Do we need to replace our existing pumps and hardware?

No. Nexus AI is designed to work with existing pumps and field hardware. In many cases we only add sensors and edge nodes near critical assets.

How does Nexus AI work with poor or intermittent connectivity?

Our edge nodes make decisions locally and sync state opportunistically. Irrigation decisions do not depend on constant internet.

What kind of data does the system collect, and who owns it?

We collect pump usage, irrigation events, basic sensor data, and anonymous system logs. Data ownership and access controls are defined explicitly with each partner.

How long does a typical pilot deployment take?

Most pilots run in 4-6 weeks from scoping to first irrigation events, depending on hardware procurement and local approvals.

How do you handle model updates and policy changes?

Policies and models are versioned, tested on hardware-in-the-loop rigs, and rolled out with clear change logs to partners.

Is Nexus AI suitable for donors, CSR projects, and climate funds?

Yes. Our impact reporting and governance tooling are designed to plug into donor, CSR, and climate resilience programs.

Who do we talk to first?

All early conversations go through Rishabh Agrawal, who scopes the pilot with you before any hardware is discussed.

About Nexus AI

Nexus AI is a deep-tech venture founded at the intersection of computer science, energy systems, and rural development.

We began as independent research into the theoretical foundations of machine learning and cyber-physical systems, then moved into field pilots with farmers, FPOs, and local implementers across eastern India.

Our mission is to make advanced AI feel simple, trustworthy, and genuinely useful in the villages and fields where it matters most. We care as much about interfaces, governance, and livelihoods as we do about models and metrics.
